Ban Gioc waterfall

Ban Gioc waterfall is located in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province, nears the Sino-Vietnamese border. The waterfall is a highlight of Cao Bang tourism and also one of the most epic scenery in Vietnam.

The waterfall broke a lot of records not only in Vietnam but in the whole world. It is the largest waterfall in Asia and the fourth largest waterfall along a national border in the world, with over 200 meters (656 f.) wide and a drop of more than 70 meters (229 ft.). It is separated into three falls by rocks and trees, and the thundering effect of the water hitting the cliffs can be heard kilometers away from Trung Khanh.

Ban Gioc Waterfall brings a poetic, fresh, quiet beauty of water, forest and cloud area combined with village atmosphere of mountainous ethnic minorities. Standing under the waterfall, you will feel a fresh and cool atmosphere, made by the water mist from the fall. The mist also create an epic and imposing scene that you never see in anywhere before ever. Especially, in sunny days, the sunlight comes through the fall, making amazing and colorful rainbows.

Means of travelling
If you choose coach to travel, you have to take twice: one from Hanoi to Cao Bang and another from Cao Bang to Trung Khanh. The coach Hanoi - Cao Bang takes you about almost a night, and then you can take a local bus to Trung Khanh district. From there, it takes about 20km to Ban Gioc fall, and the best way to travel is motorbike taxi.

If you travel by motorbike, the popular routes are Hanoi - Lang Son - Cao Bang and Hanoi - Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan - Cao Bang.

Time
Ban Gioc has different beauties in different seasons. In dry season (from October to May), the water is drop slowly and the fall is very gentle and peaceful. During rainy season (from June to September), the waters become strong and fierce, so that you can enjoy the imposing and impressive scenery of the fall.

Moreover, the yellow rice field on May and buckwheat blossoms in spring are ideal time for you to visit Ban Gioc.
